Alison and Jenny McGregor, Aberdeen's own mother-daughter singing sensation, are through to the semi finals of TV smash-hit Britain's Next Big Star and everyone loves them. But their reality-TV dream turns into a real-life nightmare when they are kidnapped. Time is running out, but DS Logan McRae and his colleagues have nothing to go on: the kidnappers haven't left a single piece of forensic evidence. The investigation is going nowhere. This book excels at character development and dialogue, even if the plot and the rhythm lag at times. The author has a gift for making the characters come to life

It is more enjoyable if you've read the books before it, but the author does not alienate new readers by making the previous books essential to understanding and enjoying this one. Great writing. I'm in love with the stellar character development, especially concerning DI Steel. It was very subtle, but I did notice her use of children's shows as metaphors. I conjunction with what was going on in her life at that time, I appreciated those details very much.

7th in the series of Logan McRae mystery novels. Always macabre crime depictions and dark humor. This book holds up with the rest. This installment is a good read.
