I've read a lot of books in 2019 and this is definitely one of the best. I really enjoyed it and getting to know August, his family and friends. It was an easy read and held my interest from the first page. I wasn't that fond of the first part of the book but once his sister Via began to tell her story, things really picked up. The one character I liked best was, oddly enough her boyfriend. He seemed like a great guy. There weren't any characters that I absolutely hated, even the really bad ones. I liked that we got a glimpse of several characters throughout the book and that I was able to read their stories as well. The story has a lot of detail without being overly graphic, and actually it wasn't graphic at all. Even when August is described, the writer leaves it up to your imagination to picture him by giving only minor details about his face. It's a great story for all ages (myself being in my 50's really enjoyed it) and I know that kids will like this book. It has very funny moments and some that are jaw dropping. One in particular made me gasp and put my hand over my mouth in surprise, which indicates really good writing.
